Black Kite

Darter (Anhinga melanogaster). This very young darter, still covered in down and yet to grow feathers but already equipped with the Darter's pointed beak, has explored along the branch from its nest. The branch overhangs the Ord River where it enters Lake Argyle; if the chick falls into the water it will be snapped up by one of the many crocodiles loitering there.
