The Diamond Dove (Geopelia cuneata) is a small dove with bright eyes surrounded by red ring. Grows to 20 to 24 centimetres. Head and neck are a soft pale grey; grey merges into off-white underparts and brown back and wings. Clear white spots on the upper wings.
Widespread in dry areas of Australia but never far from water. Found in grassy woodland, semi-arid grassland, spinifex, mulga and similar dry scrublands. Not found along the south coast, southern Victoria or Tasmania. Common but the nomadic population fluctuates with conditions.
