Coming Over the Top: The Most Misused Term in Golf
Over the Top is perhaps the most common swing fault among high handicap golfers. It occurs due to an overuse of the upper body on the downswing. As a result the club will be thrown on the outside of the intended swing plane with the club head approaching the ball from outside to in. This creates a pull if the clubface is square or a slice if the club face is open. The Over the Top move is diagnosed from the target line view.
Does your ball flight start left and stay left or bend around sharply from left to right like a big banana slice? Maybe your shots come off fat or thin and travel only halfway to your intended target? Using the lag shot golf training aid fixes your over top swing and shallows the downswing.
